THE WINTER may be long and severe, several storms passing over and counting. For some, storms still rage -- especially for the crushed and lonely, the homeless and hopeless. Nevertheless, may we say Yes anew to Christ's coming into the dark storm with us, for us all that begins with Epiphany and culminates in the cross at Golgotha.
The old African-American spiritual tells beyond theology and prose:
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Were you there when they crucified my Lord?
Sometimes it causes me to tremble, tremble, tremble.

May our yes be a Yes without denying our trembling and call to walk through darkness and storm, with others, especially the oppressed and hopeless. But now with Him who defeats death by dying, brings grace out of sin-- who is our bright morning Star.
